There are a lot of different maracatus. In this lesson you can see 1 example of how to play a maracatu from Recife. Filmed and edited by Gertjan Withagen. www.michaeldemiranda.nl percussionfun.blogspot.nl
Video Rating: 4 / 5

Olá Michael. Very good, muito bom. claro, isso é apenas uma demonstração. só tenho uma ressalva; o maracatu é muito mais completo.faz o chão tremer.
lol!! Thanks!!
I think an even greater gift you could give mankind apart from percussion is your apparent discovery of human cloning!

Thanks! I will let you know. Are there any video’s on Youtube from your group: Bloco de Pedra?
Let me know when you come do Sao Paulo and I’ll show you a great group of Maracatu called Bloco de Pedra. You’ll love it, and I’m sure you can learn a lot with us and then spread the word! Really, let me know.
I’m sorry to hear this. This baque was presented to me by a group from Recife when I was there. They also had other maracatu’s, but I liked this one. Anyway, I’m not in contact with this group, else I would pass your word and tell them that the caixa and alfaia of them, is not correct.
I´m sorry, but the ´caixa´ and the ´alfaia´ havent been presented correctly.
Each Maracatu Nation has its on ´baque´. It creates the diference between them. It´s a great iniciative, but the truth is that we need to carry on the informations correctly.
Its a great rhythm that has been widespread around the world. I´m a ´batuqueira´, brasilian word to Maracatu player. So I needed to express my opinion.
If you go to Salvador da Bahia, you’ll find the music in the streets. There is always music and on tuesdays, friday and saturday there are concerts. This is also outside of the carnival.
It was interesting. We had a gentleman from Ivory Coast who is a drummer and dancer come and do a bit of call and response with us, and he did a rhythm that started off like the one in samba reggae (on the drum that looks closest to djembe). Next time I go to brazil, I should definitely head to Baia. I wonder if the music is performed outside of carnival? Carnival was too crazy for me.
Thanks! I will carry on!
every single video of yours is really amazing….carry on!!
Thank you for your comment! And yes, Africa is very much alive in Brasil!! If you ever go to Bahia you’ll see, hear and smell Africa!
great channel michael. What a great and valuable resource into a culture’s music. Thanks for doing this. Interesting to see how some of the west african rhythms are present in this music. I noticed in this samba reggae video too.
Não, eu sou um holandês, que realmente ama o Brasil. Muitas vezes eu tinha que estudar.
Você é Brasileiro ?
